SPMU AFTERCARE

HEALING & AFTERCARE FOR SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP

General Healing Process (All Procedures)

Healing typically takes 7-14 days externally and 4-6 weeks internally.

The treated area will go through several stages:

  1. Day 1-3: Swelling, tenderness, and dark/intense colour.
  2. Day 4-7: Scabbing, dryness, and itching as the skin starts to peel.
  3. Day 7-14: Colour may appear light or patchy. The true colour emerges over time.
  4. Week 4-6: Skin fully heals, and final colour settles. A touch-up is recommended after 6-8 weeks.

Eyebrow Aftercare (Microblading, Powder Brows, Ombre Brows)

Healing Process

  • Days 1-3: Brows will appear darker and bolder.
  • Days 4-7: Scabbing and flaking may occur. Do not pick at scabs to prevent pigment loss.
  • Days 10-14: Brows may look too light, but the color will resurface within 4-6 weeks.

Aftercare Instructions

Do:

  • Gently clean brows with sterile water and pat dry for the first 24 hours.
  • Apply a thin layer of recommended healing ointment (e.g., Aquaphor) once a day.
  • Keep brows dry for 7-10 days (avoid water, sweat, and steam).
  • Sleep on your back to prevent rubbing brows against the pillow.
  • Use SPF 30+ once healed to prevent fading.

Avoid:

  • Touching, scratching, or picking at scabs.
  • Washing your face directly over the brows for 10 days.
  • Heavy sweating (gym, sauna, hot showers) for 10-14 days.
  • Makeup, retinol, or skincare products on the brows for 2 weeks.
  • Sun exposure, tanning, or chemical peels for at least 4 weeks.

Eyeliner Aftercare (Lash Enhancement & Winged Liner)

Healing Process

  • Days 1-2: Eyes may be swollen and slightly red.
  • Initial Stage: Eyeliner may appear darker and thicker.
  • Days 3-7: Light peeling/flaking may occur.
  • Weeks 4-6: Final colour settles.

Aftercare Instructions

Do:

  • Use a cold compress to reduce swelling within the first 24 hours.
  • Clean gently with sterile saline wipes or a damp cotton pad.
  • Apply a thin layer of recommended healing balm if advised.
  • Avoid eye makeup for 7-10 days.

Avoid:

  • Rubbing, scratching, or picking at scabs.

Lip Aftercare (Lip Blush, Lip Liner, Full Lip Tint)

Healing Process

  • Days 1-3: Lips may be swollen and appear very dark.
  • Days 3-5: Peeling and flaking; lips may feel chapped.
  • Days 7-14: Lips may appear too light or uneven, but the true color will return.
  • Weeks 4-6: Full healing; a touch-up may be needed.

Aftercare Instructions

Do:

  • Drink through a straw for the first few days.
  • Apply moisturizing ointment (e.g., Aquaphor or Vitamin E balm) frequently.

  • Sun exposure, swimming, or sauna for at least 2 weeks.

SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP FAQS

  • Does semi-permanent makeup hurt?

    • Mild discomfort is expected, but numbing cream is used to minimise pain.
    • Pain levels vary by area (eyeliner may feel more sensitive than brows).
  • How long does the procedure take?

    • Brows: 2-3 hours
    • Eyeliner: 1.5-2.5 hours
    • Lips: 2-3 hours
  • How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

    • Brows: 1-3 years
    • Eyeliner: 2-5 years
    • Lips: 2-4 years
    • Fading depends on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and skincare products.
  • When do I need a touch-up?

    • A touch-up is recommended after 6-8 weeks to perfect the shape and color.
    • Annual maintenance touch-ups keep the pigment fresh.
  • Can I get semi-permanent makeup while pregnant or nursing?

No, due to the risk of infections and pigment changes caused by hormones.

  • Will my brows/lips/eyeliner look natural?

Most piercings will naturally close up if the jewellery is removed once fully healed. However, some piercings, particularly on cartilage, may leave permanent holes or scars. If you want to close a piercing, it's best to consult with a professional piercer.

  • What should I do before my appointment?

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners for 24 hours.
    • Do not get botox, fillers, or chemical peels for at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
  • Can I wear makeup after the procedure?

Avoid makeup on the treated area for at least 10 days to prevent infections.

  • Why do my brows/lips look too dark?

The pigment appears 30-50% darker at first but will lighten as the skin heals.

  • Can I wash my face after getting semi-permanent makeup?

Yes, but avoid direct water on the treated area. Use a damp cloth around it.
